DOWTHERM RP is a liquid phase heat transfer fluid that may be utilized in heat transfer systems operating between -4 °F and 660 °F.
DOWTHERM RP is a high purity diaryl alkyl. This heat transfer fluid provides exceptional performance in liquid phase heat transfer systems. Recommended operating temperatures are between -4 °F and 660 °F. Dowtherm RP offers excellent thermal stability with low-pressures while remaining in the liquid phase. This thermal stability reduces the impact of problems that may arise from accidental overheating: improper heater firing, flame impingement, or inadequate circulation.
The degradation of DOWTHERM RP heat transfer fluid that may occur under normal use conditions will produce almost exclusively low boiling degradation products, which will in turn vent from the system. High boiling sludges will not build up over time as a result of this advantage. Under normal operating conditions, the fluid may never need to be changed out for reason of coking.
The fluid’s excellent flow characteristics at low temperatures reduce start-up and shutdown problems. There may be no need for heat tracing. DOWTHERM RP heat transfer fluid has high flash, fire, and autoignition points; this fluid presents no fire hazard at ambient temperatures.
It is recommended this fluid be utilized in a closed, pressurized system under an inert gas blanket with an expansion tank.
